Pretoria Golf Club 29 January 2010
After all the cancellations due to the heavy rains in Gauteng we eventually got the chance to play another IGT event. The event was played at Pretoria Golf Club with over cast conditions in the morning, but the sun come out with a breeze to make playing conditions fair for all. The course played long being so wet and the rough was a place to avoid. The Pretoria Golf Club is in great condition and if you haven’t played this little gem in Pretoria West, you must put this on your “to play” courses.
The winner Beyers Smith who has not played better than 74 gross on the Tour (I had a small bet with him that he will not break the hoodoo) had other plans for the day. He started like a Pro, making birdies on 1 and 2 but then lost it with bogeys on 3, 4 & 5. Made par on 6 and made another two birdies on 7 & 8 for a excellent front nine 35 gross. Had a Big Hamburger and Two Cokes at Half Way House (Did not listen to my advice) and made a double bogey on 10th. He made one drop, one birdie and 6 pars for a 38 gross on the back nine and a well played 73 gross and the winning score of 71 nett, to break the hoodoo and yes I lost the bet (With a smile). He has not stopped talking since the win, so good luck playing with him in his next event.
The gross winner was Martinus Barnard with a 72 gross. In his own words “That was a fighting round with some swing changes in between”. Martinus made 5 birdies on 1, 7, 14, 15, & 18 and his drops included a double bogey and 3 drops. Great golf Martinus and well played. Also playing great golf was Jaco Meyer of a 5 handicap (who is making a comeback after a year of not playing golf and a very debatable new handicap) tied for 2nd place with a 77 gross and a 72 nett.
Andre Louw with a 75 gross and Neil Jordaan with a 74 gross played solid golf and was tied for 4th place on 75 nett.
The biggest surprise of the day came from Godwin Mishe playing of a 12 handicap. He was the leader in the club house after nine holes with an astonishing 39 gross. Gerio Kemp who played with him commented after nine holes that he can’t make a mistake and is just playing solid golf. The back nine was a round I believe Godwin will have nightmares about for a couple of weeks. He shot ten worst than his front nine for a 49 gross. The one thing I can say about Godwin. What a gentleman and a big asset to the tour. His words after the back nine “I am still in a developing stage with my golf”
IGTGolf believe it or Not! Our first fine for 2010 was issued for a player throwing his driver out of bounds on the 12th hole!!! The trick is to throw it forward.
New IGT Challenge! Mandy Mitchell has put out a nice challenge to all the tour players. He shot a 97 gross of a 10 handicap in his first event and stated that if he shot higher than 97 on the tour again the first drink is on him. So make sure not to miss out on this challenge.
Congratulations to all. You are always a winner on the IGTGolf Tour!
All in All another great event enjoyed by everyone!
